Okay so people say that the “dry heat” in Arizona isn’t that bad… WELL I DISAGREE. 108 degrees, no matter how low the humidity is, is still 108 freaking degrees. We had planned on getting out early to beat the heat but ended up in a long conversation over breakfast with our host at the Navajo ranch. Along with two other women staying there, we talked to her about racial issues pertaining to Native people and learned a lot about the history and current issues facing Navajo people. It was worth the delayed start but boy did we pay for it later. To sum up the rest of our day: we hiked. it was hot. it was steep. our water was boiling. my shoe broke. we thought we might not make it. we survived.
